About us
● Our beginnings
Who we are
Emerging from the #BringPaulaAndMayaHome campaign on 25 March 2021, Equal Namibia is committed to ensuring equal opportunity before the law and dignity in everyday life.
We work at the intersection of law, democracy, and community, advocating for structural change while remaining deeply rooted in the lived realities of queer Namibians.
● Fostering partnerships
Our approach
We believe that sustainable change requires more than visibility.
It requires:
Legal Advocacy that challenges discriminatory laws and policies
Civic Engagement that empowers people — especially young people — to participate in democracy
Public Education that shifts narratives and counters misinformation
Community-Centred Action that prioritises safety, inclusion, and belonging
Our work is informed by global opportunities, driven by real human experience, and strengthened through partnerships across civil society.
● The words we stand by
Our values
Dignity: Every person deserves respect and recognition
Equality: Rights are not conditional or selective
Participation: Democracy works best when everyone can take part
Solidarity: Progress is collective, not individual
Accountability: Power must answer to the people
Our vision is a Namibia where LGBTQIA+ people live freely, safely, and equally — protected by law, represented in public life, and affirmed in their communities.
